In what was a great way to celebrate Christmas late, Osborne Motors Racing and their Serv Dragster picked up the winner’s trophy at the Nitro Funny Car event held at the Perth Motorplex on Boxing Day, 26 December 2009.

At the conclusion of qualifying, the Serv Dragster was number two, with a Personal Best (PB) 7.83, in the 14-car Veem Engineering Modified field.

After progressing through eliminations with consistent laps, the Serv Dragster was paired against former National Super Sedan Champion Shane Wynd, also in a dragster, for the final. A 0.009 reaction time and 7.88 on a 7.82 dial-in was enough to collect the win light, with Wynd having mechanical issues on the start line. Team Owner and driver Simon Lekias, was excited at the performance of the Serv Dragster. “To run PB’s for both elapsed time and speed (170mph) so far this season, grab a runner-up trophy at the 38th Goldenstates, and now a win at the Nitro Funny Car event is reward for some hard work and persistence”, Simon remarked.

The win has given Simon, and the Serv Dragster, a boost in the local track championship, moving him to the top of the point standings close to the mid-way point of the season. “We have given ourselves every opportunity to win the championship; however, with some big events to come and the bracket becoming more and more competitive, we won’t be letting our guard down”.

The Serv Dragster will now be prepared for the next round of the Modified track championship to be held on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th January 2010 when round three of the Top Fuel Championship hits the Perth Motorplex.
